The Hadia are an agricultural people of 928,000 occupying the territory between the Omo and Bilate rivers. They grow enset and other crops. They also raise animals and have beautiful meadows.
Many customs are practised during the various stages of pregnancy and birth. These pre-delivery and post-partum preparations care for the physical and psychic protection of mother and baby and deepen the social bonds within the community.
